O. Henry E-News: Week of Nov. 24

As of right now, school is on for tomorrow! Check the news tomorrow morning, but we are planning for a regular school day. Check Tuesday morning, as well, because the forecast is for more cold, wet weather.

We wish all of you a safe, happy Thanksgiving! We are very thankful to be working at a school where there are so many wonderful students and parents!

ACES: New enrichment classes for O. Henry students

This fall, O. Henry Middle School initiated a new program for all students called ACES (acronym for Academic, Curriculum, Enrichment, and Support). ACES is a graded class with multiple goals geared toward enhancing student learning. The program is centered around a homeroom class made up of 19-23 students who meet four days each week: two days with their ACES teacher, and two days at an Intervention class or a student-selected Enrichment course.

Coats for Kids Drive
NJHS will be leading the O. Henry Coats for Kids Drive from Nov. 18 – Dec. 3rd. Coats for Kids is an annual community project that collects and distributes warm winter coats to eligible children and teenagers in Central Texas. Each year, The Junior League of Austin, Jack Brown Cleaners, KASE 101, and KVUE partner to bring the community together to ensure that the children of Central Texas stay warm. Students can drop off coats in the bin located in their grade level counselors office.…

Christy Pipkin speaks to 6th grade

logoChristy Pipkin, Executive Director of the Nobelity Project, is speaking at a 6th grade assembly at OHMS on Friday November 15 at 1:00 pm in the Freeman Gym. Parents are welcome to attend.

As the Executive Director, Christy Ellinger Pipkin works to bring the non-profit’s initiatives to fruition — creating motivating documentaries and short films, helming educational outreach in the US and abroad, and maintaining oversight on development projects around the world. She believes that by improving conditions in one community you improve the state of the global community, and by working together we tilt the world towards peace.…
