On June 5 the 8th grade class at O. Henry was honored with a Recognition Ceremony with luncheon following for students and their guests. Above is a small sample of pictures from the event. Photographer Madeleine Tilin was on hand to take pictures of the graduates with Principal Pete Price, as well as candid shots with friends and family. For the next two weeks you can view all of her photos and order prints at her web site.

Thanks also to Erika Brown, Tracy LaQuey Parker, and Gaye Holden for additional pictures from the event.

Save Our Teachers IV: Final Tally

SOT-2014

Thanks to the generous donations of the families listed below, we added another $6,000 the past two weeks, totalling $60,606 for the year. We met our goal of $50,000, which means our very kind benefactors will now donate an additional $50,000! That’s $110,000 raised in less than two months! You all are amazing.

“So, Pete, what are you going to use the money for?” Fair question. Answer:

  • An additional $110,00 purchases the equivalent of two teaching units. We will add classes–which cost $8000 each–to keep class sizes down.
  • With hundreds of computers on campus, we need to employ a Technology Specialist. Evan Clutson has been doing an awesome job these past two years. Very few AISD campuses allocate funds for this position.
  • There is a significant cost to running our exemplary ACES (Advisory, Curriculum, Enrichment, Support) program. Two thirds of our faculty teach an ACES class, which counts as a full period in their schedule. We are seeing the huge benefits of our Social/Emotional Learning initiative, as well as our Enrichment and Intervention classes, and want to hone these systems next year.
