Mustang Tennis Organizational Meetings and Team Tryouts
All 7th and 8th grade athletes (boys and girls) who wish to secure a place on one of our Mighty Mustang Tennis teams this season must attend their required organizational meeting this week and sign up for a tryout slot for the following week (March 5-9). Specific tryout times and other important details will be discussed during these mandatory organizational meetings held THIS week (February 27 – March 2). For full list of Mustang Tennis organizational meetings, dates and times, please see below. All student athletes must have a current U.I.L. doctor’s physical on file with the O. Henry Athletics office before March 5.

Current ZATS, Champs, Super Champs & Future Maroon Tennis Players (U.I.L.)
All 7th and 8th grade tennis players (boys and girls) with future hopes for playing Mighty Maroon Tennis at Austin High (or for playing U.I.L. high school tennis anywhere) must attend Coach Devereaux’s Mustang Tennis organizational meeting for USTA ranked players this Wednesday, February 29 from 3:40 until 4:10pm in Portable 4. Mustang Tennis singles and doubles configurations will be bid on, pre-season reports for upcoming matches with Gorzycki, Bailey, Small and Murchison middle schools will be discussed, and U.I.L. protocols will be reviewed. The U.I.L. post-season tournament at the University of Texas and on-site tournament interview opportunities with Lewis Price, the Austin High Maroons head tennis coach, will also be discussed. Personalized players’ schedules for the Spring 2012 tennis season will be developed with the view of maintaining each player’s current practice and lessons regimen at Austin Tennis Academy, Westwood Country Club, or other competitive USTA affiliated junior tournament system programs.

Returning 8th grade Mustang Tennis team members
All 8th grade tennis players (boys and girls) who played Mustang Tennis last year must attend Coach Devereaux’s preseason meeting for veteran players this Thursday, March 1 from 3:40 until 4:10pm in Portable 4. If you are a current ZATS, Champs or Super Champs player who will attend Wednesday’s meeting (see above), then you are not required to attend Thursday’s meeting.

Beginner and Intermediate level tennis players
All 7th and 8th grade tennis players (boys and girls) who are relatively new to tennis and are not involved with competitive USTA junior tournament programs are invited to attend Coach Devereaux’s informational meeting for new tennis players next Monday, March 5 from 3:40 until 4:10pm in Portable 4.

Track season will begin on Monday, March 5. All participants must have a current AISD physical on file and be in good academic standing. Athletes do not have to have athletics class in order to participate on the track team. 7th grade practice will be held on Monday and Tuesday at 7:15am and 8th Grade will practice Monday and Tuesday at 3:45pm. There will be no practice during the week of Spring Break (March 12-16). If you have an questions please feel free to contact:
