Dear O. Henry Families and Friends,

Although the district did not make any additional teacher cuts for the 2012-13 school year, we still will be four teachers short.  This means that core class size could be 36-38 students!  Therefore, we are obliged to restart our fundraising engines, so we can offer our students the finest middle school education in central Texas.

Faced with budget cuts that would significantly reduce the teaching staff at O. Henry, Pete Price and the PTA launched a campaign at the beginning of May with a goal of raising $100K in one month to Save Our Teachers and retain manageable class sizes. Generous donors contributed over $200,000 for the cause. Our sincere thanks to everyone who helped preserve the quality of education at our school with your donations!

Two weeks ago, I emailed you a letter explaining how state budget cuts would be affecting our students and staff next year. The PTA and I challenged our community to raise $100,000 to “Save Our Teachers”. We said that we needed the money by June 1 in order to keep our awesome educators at O. Henry and to guarantee manageable class sizes.
