O. Henry re-designated as national ‘School to Watch’

In January of 2015 O. Henry received the following notice from the Texas Middle School Association:

We are delighted to officially confirm to you and your entire staff that O.Henry Middle School has been re-designated as a Texas School to Watch. The assessment team was very impressed with the degree to which your school has fulfilled the criteria of the program. We look forward to working with the school in the future as you continue your journey of school improvement.

Austin, TX—Today, U.S Congressman Lamar Smith congratulated O. Henry Middle school staff members for being named a 2012 School to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform. The staff members were in Washington, D.C. for the National Forum’s 8th annual Schools to Watch conference.

“The principal and staff members at O. Henry Middle school deserve our appreciation and gratitude for their extraordinary efforts on behalf of our children,” Congressman Smith said. “I hope that O. Henry continues to serve as a shining example of how talented teachers and engaged administrators can shape the minds and futures of America’s children.”

Schools to Watch Assembly Photos

On May 17 at 9 AM every O. Henry student and staff member gathered in the large gym to celebrate the naming of our school as a 2012 “School to Watch.” Austin ISD Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen and School Board of Trustees President Mark Williams were on hand for the ceremony as well as Justin Oxley, Principal, and Michelle Castadeda, Academic Dean of Bradley Middle School, San Antonio.

O. Henry selected as national School to Watch!

I received the call today: O. Henry is being recognized by the Texas and national Schools to Watch programs! Only 100 middle schools around the nation received this honor in the 2011-12 school year. Needless to say, we are ecstatic!

Congratulations to everyone–teachers, staff, parents, and students. Our outstanding learning community deserves this highest recognition, and best of all, we are now plugged in with some of the best middle schools and scholars in the United States.…
