As we begin the final semester of the 2025–26 school year, we’re excited to share the very first official issue of The Rodeo, the OHMS PTA quarterly newsletter.

This new space is designed to help us stay connected, informed, and engaged as a community. We’re also kicking off the semester by celebrating our principal, Camie Fillpot, whose steady leadership continues to guide O. Henry forward. With so much ahead this spring, we’re glad you’re here and part of it. Check it out!

  • Bring the whole family and enjoy the free concerts from 8 area schools and youth programs, including Austin High’s award-winning orchestras.
  • Enjoy the outdoor carnival, with our amazing haunted house, delicious food, games and prizes, an inflatable obstacle course, and a dunk tank!

  • Check out the silent auction, with amazing prizes from area restaurants, theaters, boutiques, hotels, and more.

Notice of Proposed Bylaws Amendments
The O.Henry Middle School PTA executive committee has proposed the following two amendments to the bylaws. These changes will be voted on at the PTA general membership meeting at 8:00 a.m. on November 7. Amendment #1 
Amend Article VII. Section 2. Dues. by increasing annual dues to $9.00

Section 2. Dues.

a. This PTA shall remit a membership roster along with the national and state dues to Texas PTA for each of its members.

b. Annual dues for each member shall be the sum of national dues plus state dues plus the local dues amount of $ 9.00.

Rationale: This minimal increase will keep OHMS dues in line with other schools in our vertical team, while generating a modest increase in revenue. National and State dues currently total $6, so this proposed increase will result in a total of $15 for members. Note that teachers only pay National/State dues ($6). 

Amendment #1 

Amend Article X. Section 1. Executive Board Composition by adding a new 3 e, adding the role of Volunteer Coordinator to the Executive board.

Section 1. Composition. The executive board of this PTA shall be:

a. the officers including the president, 4 vice president(s), secretary, and treasurer;

b. the parliamentarian;

c. the campus principal (or representative designated by the principal);

d. council delegate, and historian

e. the volunteer coordinator

Rationale: This role is needed at the executive level to help ensure the timely and successful filling of PTA committees, roles and volunteer positions. 

Austin High School Future Maroon Night is this Thursday 10/2 at House Park at 6 PM and we are so excited to have our future Maroons run through the tunnel and cheer on the football team as they take on Dripping Springs! It should be an exciting night with both the Red Jacket clinic and the 6th grade bands from O Henry and Small there to perform!

A few details to know before you go:
– Free parking is available in the ACC Rio Grande Parking Garage
– All parents must have a ticket for entry. You can purchase them here.
– House Park has a clear bag policy
– Students can check in at the table outside of House Park to get their sticker for entry
– Once students run through the tunnel, they can cheer on the team as they run out and then will be released to meet parents

Do you know a senior in high school who has fond memories of their years at O. Henry Middle School? In recognition of the outstanding students that O. Henry produces, the O. Henry PTA offers two college scholarships for graduating AISD seniors who attended O. Henry Middle School for at least two years.

The one-year scholarships are paid directly to the college that the two awardees will attend. Details on how to apply for the two $500 O. Henry PTA Scholarships can be found HERE. Applications are due by May 9, 2024.

We are proud to say that O. Henry PTA has been recognized for growth increases by the Texas PTA for the each of the past 3 years. Please help us exceed our 2024 goal of 270 members by joining today!

As the school year winds down at O. Henry there are some upcoming activities at school where your volunteer time would be most appreciated.

The first is the 8th Grade Luau Dance this Friday night at O. Henry. We would love to have more 8th grade parents sign up to help! And please encourage your child to attend this celebration of their time at OHMS.

The second is on the last day of school. We have shifts to help with the 8th Grade Recognition Ceremony (would be awesome if 6th and 7th grade parents paid it forward and helped out here!) and then Mustang Day volunteers for activities involving 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.

PTA welcomes speaker Tammy Caesar, AISD Career & Technology Director

The PTA Annual General Meeting and Volunteer Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 8:30 a.m. in the O. Henry Library.   All members are welcome to attend to celebrate the many parent and caregiver volunteers who contributed this year to O. Henry’s success, as well as meet Tammy Caesar, Director of AISD’s Career and Technology Program.  

Tammy will discuss current and future programming related to the  district’s student career program, as well as answer any questions about curriculum, staff and legislative efforts.  

Lastly, the 2024-25 Executive Board slate will be presented to PTA membership.  Don’t miss our final General Meeting – Coffee and breakfast treats from EASY TIGER will be served!
